CHEF JAMIE ATWOOD
The Mooring Restaurant was proud to add Jamie Atwood to our family in June of 2009.
His experience and natural ability to cook and present food is off the charts.
When Jamie was younger, he used to watch P.B.S., After School. “Yan Can Cook” was his favorite program.
He actually wanted to be Martin Yan, as he was his idol (along with Julia Childs and Jacques Pepin)
Jamie’s family opened Steve’s Steak & Spaghetti House in 1979 in Gloucester, Virginia.
It was then renovated in 1988 as the Lighthouse Restaurant and about the time Jamie joined the family business.
A fire in 1992 caused the Lighthouse to close but thereafter, reopened as Goodfellas Pasta, Sea & Grille.
After high school Jamie moved to Williamsburg, Virginia and began working at the Polo Club on Jamestown Road.
He worked at various other restaurants in Williamsburg but left the area and moved to Charlottesville to help his family open another Goodfellas.
He was also instrumental in launching Jimmies Grille in Urbanna.
In 2002 he took an Executive Chef position at the Piankatank River Golf Club, Steamboat Restaurant.
He is also an accomplished professional baker who used to make wedding cakes for delivery.
- Side Note…..Even though Jamie kind of fell into the business,
if it did not pan out he always wanted to be a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds!
